How to enter for
Online Exam
An online exam consists of a single video consisting of THREE Grade pieces and each Group from the “Technical Exercises” section of your grade book. This includes ALL of the fills in the “Fill” group.
For Performance Certificate exams - your exam consists of FIVE pieces but NO Technical Exercises
You do not need to include any of the “Extra” sections of the exam book such as Ear Tests, Sight Reading, Improvisation and Interpretation, etc.

THE RULES
The exam needs to captured as a single continuous shot.
(You can restart up to ONE Grade Piece and TWO Technical Exercises)
You must not edit the video in any way.*
Your face must be visible in the video

Candidates should introduce themselves by giving their full names, the exam grade, and the instrument (even though it’s pretty obvious!)

Check the recording all the way through carefully before submission. Make sure you can see and hear everything clearly. It does not need to be broadcast quality sound.
The backing tracks need to be clearly audible on the video, so the examiner can hear what candidates are playing along to. You need to have a speaker that is loud enough to be able to play the track clearly over the drum kit . Candidates can use headphones in addition to this.

*You may record multiple takes, but we recommend that you do no more than three. The perfect performance doesn’t exist, so pick the one that you feel is the best overall

So, what about the Performance?
Before you start. . .
Make sure that you have enough memory on your camera to film the whole exam at least twice.
Have your tunes on a separate device and create a playlist in the order that you want to perform them.

Make sure that the playback device ( the one with the tunes on) is audible to both you and the examiner watching the video. Ask your tutor if you are unsure about how to go about this.
They want to be in tempo order - that is, start with the slowest and finish with the fastest. It’s much easier under pressure to speed up than to slow down.
Framing the Video. . .
When recording your video the framing needs to show as much ion you as possible. It needs to be LANDSCAPE (like a TV), not PORTRAIT ( as you normally hold a phone)
The framing of the video needs to show the kit - so it’s not obscured by your body. This over-the-shoulder shot is ideal.
When you start the exam, face the camera and clearly state your name and which exam you’re entering for, for example:
Hello, my name is Draco Malfoy and I will be taking the drum kit Grade 1 exam today. I will start with…
If you are doing Grade 6 and above, this is the point to show your photo I.D. It needs to be close enough (and held for long enough) so that the examiner watching the video can see the details clearly
…and away you go!
Don’t expect to do a perfectperformance - It won’t happen.
So carry on through your mistakes.
